Sandostatin LAR is the most prescribed and most studied medical therapy in the treatment of acromegaly. Sandostatin LAR has a well-established safety profile backed by more than a decade of clinical use.1,2

Sandostatin LAR works centrally at the site of the tumour and binds to somatostatin receptors to regulate GH secretion and cell growth.3

  • 96% of GH-secreting pituitary tumours express the somatostatin receptor subtype, sst24

Sandostatin LAR works directly at the tumour site to reduce pituitary tumour size5,6

GH levels are the single most important determinant of mortality in acromegaly.7

  • Mortality rates are improved or normalised in acromegaly patients with posttreatment GH levels <2.5 ng/mL5

The goal of therapy is to reduce both GH and IGF-1 levels.5

  • Sandostatin LAR delivers effective control of both GH and IGF-1 levels5,6
